Year 9 Mathematics
Course Description

This is the course that further develops the skills studied in Year 8. Learners are taught by specialist Mathematics teachers and learners are introduced to new concepts and more challenging word problems using calculators. Much of the focus in this year’s work is Levels 4 to 5 of the NZ Mathematics Curriculum. Coursework will include:
Number: Fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages in real-life settings that include money-related matters like GST, interest, salaries and commission cost- and selling price.
Measurement: Perimeter of compound shapes, area of composite shapes, surface area of 3D shapes and volume.
Algebra: Write expressions and equations, simplify, expand and factorise expressions, and solve multi-step equations and patterns.
Probability: Use the Statistical enquiry cycle to investigate chance-based scenarios and express chance as a probability, Venn diagrams and probability trees.
Space: Angle rules, angles, bearings, constructions and transformations
Statistics: Statistical enquiry cycle(PPDAC) - Evaluate a problem, Create a plan to investigate, collect data to calculate central tendencies and create visual presentations, analyse the data to make informed conclusions.
