Level 3 History

Course Description

Teacher in Charge:

In the Level 3 History course learners have the opportunity to analyse contested historical events from New Zealand and international contexts. They will gather information from historical sources such as artefacts, films, guest speakers, and historical sites to gain an understanding of the causes, consequences, and significance of important historical events

The study of History develops a range of valuable skills that prepare learners for tertiary study, including:

  • Effective research processes – selecting appropriate sources of information, referencing etc

  • Written communication - paragraph and essay writing

  • Verbal communication – expressing ideas and opinions

  • Critical and analytical thinking – thinking deeper about events and different perspectives on these

  • Connecting past with present – how past events have influenced social and political situations today

  • Separating fact from fiction

Topics that may be covered: 

- Researching a significant historical event of each learner's choice

- The Invasion of the Waikato

- The My Lai Massacre

- The French Revolution



Course Costs and Equipment (this cost is only indicative)

1 x 2B8 (hard cover) exercise book, 40 page clear file, highlighters.
Learners will need printing credit loaded on their accounts for the research internal.
