Junior Pathway

Learners in Years 8 and 9 must choose to study Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (Māori Medium) or Te Mātauranga o Aotearoa (English Medium). You might know Te Marautanga o Aotearoa as the Wananga

Learners opting for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (Māori Medium Pathway) - the Junior Wānanga - will be a part of a new rōpū whānau for 2024.

This rōpū whānau will be immersed in Te Ao Māori curriculum in all subjects and have a slightly different configuration of lessons.

Currently, mainstream offers 4x Maths, English & Science lessons a week. The Māori medium pathway will reduce these subjects by 1 hour and allocate this time to Te Reo Māori. This gives parity across all subjects with every subject having 3 hours a week.

Your acceptance into this pathway is not automatic. You will need to write an application note on selection Acceptance will depend on resources, adequate interest, post-option choice application and whānau support.
