Year 9 option Maori is for some an introductory course into Te Reo Maori but for most an extension into conversational Te Reo Maori. Learners are expected to learn the following content;

Recap all of year 8 curriculum Maori with an emphasis on:

· Kupu Hou (new words)

· Extension of descriptive sentence structures

· Extensions of locational & counting sentence structures

· Combo structures (mixing the two above).

The main themes for this course are:

Tōku Kainga – My Home

Kōrero whanau- Family

Year 9 option Maori is directed at level 2 & 3 of the curriculum and is specifically focused on Te Reo Maori & Tikanga (Maori language & processes) with follow on aspects of Matauranga Maori (Maori knowledge).
