Level 3 Health Education

Course Description

This Senior Health course is designed to enable learners to have the freedom to follow their passions and interests. Learners select assessments and projects with the guidance of their teachers. These selections can be based on their level of interest, passion and/or motivation to engage in societal/topical issues and/or moral dilemmas under the wider Health Education curriculum.

Individuals will engage with school and community organisations and be exposed to a flexible curriculum. Learners will get an opportunity to work at an NCEA level suitable to their learning needs and will work with a range of teachers throughout the year.

Topics Covered (but not limited to):

Abortion, Euthanasia, Epidemiology, Addiction, Child Poverty, Stress & Anxiety, Diabetes, Intergenerational hardship.

Level 3 Achievement Standards:

- Analyse a New Zealand health issue.

- Evaluate health practices currently used in New Zealand.

-Analyse a contemporary ethical issue in relation to well-being.

- Analyse an international health issue.

Optional Achievement Standards (Physical Education):

- Evaluate physical activity experiences to devise strategies for lifelong well-being.

- Examine a current physical activity event, trend or issues and its impact on New Zealand society.

Learners will select 3-4 standards to complete over the year with help and guidance from their teacher.
